LightScribe Forum : LightScribe Template Labeler : preview & print question... Hi,

I just wanted to know what the purpose of the copies field is on the Preview & Print window of the Lightscribe Template Labeler. What I mean is that does it allow me to scribe the same label more than once onto the same disk?

The reason I ask is because I find that I have to scribe the same label twice or even three times to get a dark enough print, and it would be handy if the labeler could redo the disk without me having to manually start the process.

Before anyone asks if I have the settings at highest the answer is yes. I understand the disks need more than one session to give adequate results, its just a pain in the rear manually starting each session.

I tried to use it once before, and I believe it didn't work and did something weird.

I haven't tried it out lately to see if it works now.

I haven't had to do any multiple-burns because the label comes out darker with one pass.

I use multiple instances of the TL at times, and do several copies one at a time.

I tried out the feature but it still wanted me to manually re-insert the disk and start the next copy.

You have got to tell me how you get good results from just one burn! (maybe post a picture of one of your disks?) Seriously, I have NEVER been able to get a good dark print.

Don't know if it helps, but I use Verbatim DVD+R (Lightscribe v1.2) disks in a Lacie DVD Writer

If I could get a decent label after one burn it would render my initial question moot!

I just went to the LS Control Panel and changed the setting to be darker!

It didn't add but about 1-3 minutes to the burn time, and I even had to develop about 5 Lighter Custom Templates so it wouldn't be too dark!

I really didn't do anything else!

The first is built-in to My HP Pavillion dv9825nr Notebook PC.

The second is built-in to My HP PhotoSmart C8180 All-In-One Printer.

It is connected via a USB 2.0 Cable.

I thought that because I was using an external writer (via usb) that may be the problem, but you are using yours that way.

leads me back to thinking that my light labels are due to the drive.

Would using different labelling software possibly provide better results?

I can pretty much only find Memorex and sometimes HP on sale.  I use both their CDs & DVDs.

I had some problems with how clean the LABEL side was clean and smudge free on the first 2 spindles of the Memorex, but recovered all but one which had a bad DATA side.

I'll try the cheapest option first and see if I can get different brand disks, although, I don't expect to get better results.

Actually, I have Nero 7 so I'll give that a go first.

I use Nero 9 or Vista's built-in burn feature for the DATA side.

How I create Labels Containing a Track List

I've put together some stuff I use to create CD Labels.

  • I wrote up the procedure I use in a PDF File.
  • I make PDF Files of any Documentation I create.
  • I have V1.14.32.1 of the LSS and since Version 1.17.90.1 of both the LSS and the corresponding Diagnostic Utility.
  • I include an "Additional Stuff" Folder which contains anything I create while developing My Custom Templates.
  • I created ZIP Files for 6 Windows Vista "Right-Click" Commands I developed to support this and other procedures I use.
  • I "ripped off" the "Template Playlist Beta" "Full" and "Half" Disk Templates; fixed them and create a ZIP File of the two templates.
  • I have a PDF that contains "Template vs. Simple Labelers" - a comparison of what is the structure of each template.
  • I found 5 FREE Tools I use for development, and have more I am testing.
  • I have a PDF which contains a "Mini Resume" and a lot of "LightScribe Stuff" I've researched.
  • I continually develop PDFs on the Tools I use for development.
  • I developed 123 Custom Templates for the Template Labeler.
  • I developed 6 collections of Images.
  • I developed a New Custom Wedding Template for one Forum User and I did one for another Forum User.
  • I fixed one LSL File for another User by changing a White Outline of some Text to Black.
  • I created Previews of all my Custom Templates and Images and have Mini-Catalogues of both as PDF Files.
  • I created 174 ICONS and a PDF Preview.
  • I developed 4 Test "borders" for the Simple Labeler.
  • I tend to concentrate on Filling the entire disk surface especially with TEXT, Bold, Outline, White Text, and More Font Control.
