Hi together,

I have pretty common problem with not recognizing by Nero 9 both of my LS-drives, which I still cannot solve .
I have HP-Pavillion dv 9565eg notebook, Vista Home Premium SP2, turned on UAC (which I won't turn off ) and previously had been working with LS on Roxio software. After I bought a new drive with Nero 9 OEM, I uninstalled Roxio (very cleanly), but got later problems wth Nero, namely with Nero Cover Designer, which doesn't have icons for LS and doesn't see my LD drives. With Nero was automatically installed LS-Version 1.14.XX, which I've updated to 1.18.XX, but no better results. Both LS-versions do have been recognizing my LS-Drives.
After all my own unsuccessful efforts I've contacted Nero Support, followed almost all of their instructions (point a) is possible for Vist Ultimate only), but also with no positive result. Instructions are listed bellow (my apologies, I got it in german only).

Could anyone be so kind to help me with my problem?

Many Thank In Advance!

_____________________
1)
Wählen Sie in Windows
>Start
>Einstellungen
>Systemsteuerung
>Verwaltung
>Dienste
>LightScribeService Direct Disc Labeling Service

Klicken

a)
For Windows XP Professional / Vista:

Select Windows
> Home
> Settings
> Control Panel
> Administration
> Local Security Policy
> Local Policies
> Security Options

Double-click the entry
"Equipment: Access to CD-ROM drives locally logged on user limit."
Select the option "Disabled".
Confirm this change with "Apply" and "OK."

b)
For Windows XP Home:

Open the "Registry" by clicking
In Windows' Start 'button
then click 'Run'.
Write "regedit" into the "open" and confirm with "OK."
Select the path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows NT -> CurrentVersion -> Winlogon.
There is an entry: 'allocatecdroms'.
Double-click "allocatecdroms"
Verify that the value allocatecdroms is set to 0.
If not, change it to 0

Hi, I used Google to translate your post and these two parts are where Nero causes the issues for LightScribe software. Both are set to improve system security but the LightScribe software needs higher level access than the 'local user'. The LightScribe diagnostic utilty will take care of the allocatecdroms setting but not the other settings.

And an important step is to shutdown after making the registry changes to re-read the registry on startup.

Sorry for delay and many thanks for your answer, but -

a) these settings are available for Vista Ultimate only
b) and those for XP only ))
c) LS-utility of course showed that everything ok with my drives and there are no problems.
Anyway, thank very much you for willingness to help!
Today I got answer from both support I've recently contacted (Nero & HP). After analyzing of data I've sent official answer from Nero was (HP had the same opinion):
your (!) version of Nero 9 is OEM version with NO LS-function, so buy our new full Version of Nero 9! (with all its unnecessary for me functions )

I hope it'll be helpful for other people, who are/will be trying to solve this problem as well as it'll save time a bit ))

Good luck!
