Rolling back my motherboard drivers worked for me. My ASUS
K8N4-E Deluxe motherboard has the nForce 4 chipset. When everything was
up-to-date (i.e., latest BIOS, latest optical drive firmware, latest
motherboard drivers, WinXP SP3, etc.) I would consistently get the 4225
error. I could burn data to DVDs without any problems. I could not
print a Lightscribe label using Nero, Lightscribe template labeler, or
Surething CD labeler (yes, I was trying Lightscribe media). My drive is
LG GH22LS30, by the way.

At the time of this posting, the latest drivers for my MB were the
nForce 15.23 drivers. I did not roll back all the way to Windows
default. I did, however, roll back the motherboard drivers to nForce
version 6.86 which came on the CD included with my motherboard. I did
not specifically roll back only SATA drivers, I just reinstalled
everything that was on the MB CD. Oddly enough, when I went to
NVIDIA's website to download motherboard drivers, their "recommend
which driver I should download tool" recognized that I had version
15.23 installed and it recommended that I install 6.86...weird?

I too, tried all the fixes I could find in these forums and google. I
tried uninstalling Pinnacle, stopping potentially conflicting
processes, even RMA'd my DVD drive for a replacement. Nothing worked.
Without a doubt, rolling back my nForce drivers fixed my issue. I was
able to print my first Lightscribe label!

Have you checked out the Knowledge Base yet?

Like Joshua says a 4225 is a BAD error to keep getting.

Although I don't typically recommend it, rolling back driver (See 4225 in Knowledge Base for instructions) may help.

You could have a bad connection, if the drive is external.

I'm sorry nothing seem to be working for you.

Yes, grayed out options on that probably indicates that none is available to rollback.

I have saved some of the OLD LS Software, but I'm not certain I have a complete set before 1.17.90.1 although I do have LS Update 1.14.32.1.exe in a ZIP File. I believe that is the LSS. But, I'm not sure of the other files being compatible.

This is an "old saw" with me, but I have that kind of problem with Memorex disks, which unfortunately, are about the most plentiful media that I can find.

If any disk gives me trouble (Usually Memorex), I clean the LABEL side sometimes several times. This has reduced my problems to a failure rate below 0.5%. I can count on two hands the disks that have refused to be labeled, and one disk has failed on the DATA side.

I've made only about 100 disks, and been very lucky based on the experience of Forum members.

driver. The driver rollback was not possible. However driver update was
possible. I went on Asus website, looked up the motherboard, found the
driver section (Download > Windows XP > Chipset ) and downloaded
the most recent one (NVIDIA nForce Chipset Package Driver V15.45)

It always makes more sense to update a driver first.

I hope this can help somebody else.

I got Error 4225 and most of the time error 4231 after about 70% of the lable was burned. After getting about a 10% full burn rate. I always got the error that system sofware and service caused it . I checked the Application and system logs and found the the software was requesting a service about five times and THEN timed out - CRASH.

In my case I was running it on my notebook Asus Eee 1 Gig memory, so I moved it to my desktop 3 Gig Memory and now get successfull burns. I think the notebook could do it if I upgraded my mem to 2 gig but I burn all of my DVDs on the desktop. I did notice that the ID sysem info is in the middle by the hub and tested on the same disk because it uses the same ID to position it, so you can reburn on the same disk but they need to write a utility so it can be set to start burning where it left off, I got about four shades on my test disk, dark inside and light on the outside.

I don't think my 4 year old asus note book will handel it with 1.25 Gig and a mobile processor but I will try it for fun.

It took me about 2 days to figure it out because I was not a programmer but a netwoork engineer and field service engineer.

I got the error 4225 on Linux (Fedora 12 x86_64) after upgrading to the latest versions of everything. Judging from the earlier posts, re. hardware error, figuring it was something in the video card using resources that Linux was not aware of (the only device that I have that does not have a complete driver installed) I removed the nouveau module which was being loaded despite the presence of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf

The contents of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf says:
# RPM Fusion blacklist for nouveau driver - you need to run as root:
# dracut -f /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)
# if nouveau is loaded despite this file.
blacklist nouveau

So I ran dracut -f /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)
Then I installed kmod-nvidia from the rpmfusion-nonfree repository:
http://rpmfusion.org/

It did not have the version for the latest kernel, so I just booted to an earlier kernel by pressing F8 during boot.

Works perfectly.

Probably a bug in nouveau.

Windows users may look at drivers also. An old or conflicting driver may hog resources that could be used by the player. Hope this helps!
