Our church computer was accidently power off in the middle of a writing a lightscribe job.  Now the software doesn't work.  Everytime I hit "preview and print"  no drive shows up in the upper left hand corner where it says "select light scribe drive".

I've uninstalled and reinstalled all lightscribe software 2x.  Still not finding the drive.  It seems like it's stuck in the middle of that job...

Anybody have an idea?

Aaron

I have the same problem. Have newly installed Win7 and now can't get the computer to find the drive....have installed and re-installed at least 5 times and am getting quite frustrated to say the least. I would expect Lightscribe to post clearer instructions if there is an obvious problem with Windows 7. I am not a fricken engineer...

The problem is relate to communication with the drive.

With the drive connected to the PC, reboot the system to let the PC re-discover the drive.

I had a problem similar to this when I was burning a label on an external drive when the power failed.

Because the drive lost power whhile the PC (a Notebook PC) kept running on its battery.

 Hello newbie,

Let me see if I have your problem straight. Windows XP System , writing to the drive when you had a power glitch of some sort.. First, may I suggest that the computer have some sort of surge strip installed (if not already there) At least with the surge strip the system will be protected and your worst case should be to replace the cooked surge strip  $15.  . (ideally each computer should be on some sort of UPS (uninterruptable power supply), this way if you loose commercial power then the computer which is plugged into the UPS and then into your power outlet will at least warn you therby give the user the ability to do a normal Desktop Shutdown. (typically 15 - 45 minutes depending on the size of the UPS)

One thing you neglected to mention was if the CD/DVD drive still works at all ?? Can you place a CD or DVD (with information on it)  movie into the drive and does it AUTOSTART (playing a movie or music).

Something else, Try clicking on Start, Control Panel,  System,  Device Manager,  DVD/CD Rom Drives.  Is the DVD drive even listed under all the Computer components ?  in the  Right Mouse Click on DVD/CD Rom Listing  Select Properties, then General.  Does it Say  Device is Working Properly ??       (does it have a Big Red  "X" through it )

You can only have two possibilities here. Either the CD/DVD drive was fryed , when the power spike/outage occured or the Software driver for this particular device is corrupted and must be reloaded.

If you want one final thing to try (I know I said two), go into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.  Scroll down to the LightScribe Software section , Then Select the Uninstall/Remove Box. This will uninstall the Lightscribe Software from the system. Finally, restart the computer and see what happens.. Be sure to reload that software after the system comes back up..

As I said, please try to place a movie or music cd into the drive and see if it powers up and plays whatever you insert. The light on the front of the drive should blink whenever the CD-Drive attempts to read any info off it.  Even the worst case scenerio, a typical Lightscrive CD/DVD drive should cost you No more than approximately $30-40. .

Good luck,

Thanks for the response, Tim.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled all Lightscribe software at least 5 times, disconnected and reconnected the drive, reinstalled the drivers --still not working.

I need to give you guys more information that I neglected to provide in my original post...

To create a label, I click preview/print tab and select "Lightscribe Duplicator Label Writer" and then "print" the label as a .lsi format.  Next, I send it to my 1-7 duplicator.  My issue is that I'm not getting "Lightscribe Duplicator Label Writer" as a choice in the dropdown box.

I ordered a new dvd burner, but I don't see how that will fix the issue.

Thanks for your help!

Aaron

This FULL problem should be filed under the "Duplicator" Thread.

You may not be reaching the help you need in this Thread.

The Duplicator Driver doesn't seem to be creating the connection properly.

My only suggestion would be to install the Duplicator softwre BEFORE any LS stuff, but that may not be the full solution.

You might be overlooking the basic chain of operation when using a duplicator (at least the ones I have seen)

Generally speaking the proprietary software that comes with the duplicator enables the .lsi file creation ability. The duplicator supplied software is installed on the PC (usually WITHOUT the duplicator connected to the PC) and the model number of the duplicator is entered or chosen  in the device selection installation window. If the duplicator is connected to the PC during installation Windows may see one of the duplicator drives as an optical drive and install the drive as a peripheral. (usually the bottom target drive in the duplicator) That incorrect method of installation will result in being unable to create a .lsi file. (a .lsl file is the only result) When installed correctly, the duplicator model # is shown as a lightscribe drive and the "print" function creates a .lsi file that is saved to the PC hard drive and burned on a CD for use in the duplicator.
