Merry Christmas everyone,

My Ativa dvd multi-recorder will read any silver disk but I can't get it to read or burn a black colored disk.  I've download the latest software update but still no luck.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

If you mean the drive is unable to recognize/burn Lightscribe labels, since Lightscribe etches in grayscale there are no black Lightscribe enabled discs produced. A dark etch on a black disc would be virtually unreadable. If the drive won't read/recognize/burn the data side with data that would be an issue with Ativa tech support. I'm pretty sure the unit is a rebadged LiteOn and if it's a couple of years old would probably benefit from a proper firmware update. I know the black blanks have suffered some readability problems in in the past with some drives stemming from the reduction of refractibility due to the black dye but I'm not sure if any firmware updates address that issue.

I'll have to check to be sure, but I don't think there are Ativa Black Disks that are also LightScribe capable!

I'm actually trying to use the dvd drive to burn non lightscribe cdrs.  I like to use the Memorex black cdr to burn favorite disks.  So for me it's not an issue of using lightscribe.  I bought and installed a lightscribe dvd multi-recorder a couple of years ago to increase the number of drives on my older desktop.  My interest is in being able to use the drive to burn cdrs-particular the black ones.  I was hoping that a drive update would do it but perhaps this dvd burner is incompatible with black cdrs.

You should be able to burn the DATAside of any disk.

What I was trying to say was that NO black LABEL sides can be LightScribed!
