I've installed the update for the template software and the icon for it never shows up anywhere. It's not under the programs menu like the instructions say it should be. I have spent way too much time trying to figure out how to use this software. I have windows 7 on a new HP laptop. I have used the software on a previous computer. (just like the one I have now...had to be replaced due to a manufacture defect) So I know how to use the software. I am having issues installing software. I need to know what is on the computer and what is required. I paid extra to have Lightscribe on this computer and would like to use it. Please reply with some assistance. Thank you

This link will take you to a pretty good synopsis of what is needed for Lightscribe functionality, but since this is a new HP laptop I would recommend you contact HP support. I don't know what "update" you could be referring to that is needed on an OEM preinstalled application but HP should be the best solution. I am guessing the "update" you are referring to may be the LSS (Lightscribe System Software) but that component is the background software and doesn't show anywhere as an executable program. The labeling program you are using is the application that contains the labeling executable, but some OE burning software has the Lightscribe function contained in the software bundle under various renamed "label creation or printing" named programs. I know some of the additional template libraries I have added are separate self contained files and executable placed in whatever directory I chose at installation. I have also installed some that are merely added to the selection shown in the Lightscribe Template Labeler.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will start with the direction you provided. I think you are on the right track with it being an issue with HP.
